10,000 CG iPhone 5's used as dominoes to demonstrate NFC concept technology

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 03:05 PM PDT

Aatma Studio has created a pretty amazing video to demonstrate what NFC technology could do in the iPhone. We aren't talking your typical boring concept video, we're talking 10,000 computer-generated iPhone 5's with a hypothetical NFC chip installed that are knocked over like dominoes passing information from one screen to another.

It's a pretty cool concept, even if it doesn't happen anytime soon. Make sure you watch through until the very end as that's arguably the coolest part of the entire video. The folks at Aatma Studio have been playing around with CG iPhones for years now, including a morphing iPhone/iPad video that was just too cool. These 10,000 iPhone 5's are purely CG, but Aatma has certainly put a lot of thought and effort into the concept and the video. Maybe someday Apple will hope on the NFC bandwagon and they can try it again in real life...

Editor's desk: Offline in NYC

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 10:21 AM PDT

All that prep work I've been doing in New York City for the last few weeks? It jumps to warp speed tomorrow and I, along with my fellow Mobile Nations editors, Phil Nickinson, Daniel Rubino, and Kevin Michaluk, along with the enormously talented Cali Lewis and John P, will be pretty much offline most days this week.

I'll still pop in as much as possible, and I'll share via @reneritchie on Twitter, ADN, and Instagram as much as I can. Apple earnings are coming up on Tuesday, so at the very least I'll make sure I'm around for that.

Meanwhile, our new editor, Peter Cohen, starts tomorrow, and Leanna, Ally, Joe, as well as Chris and Simon will be around to keep things running.

We're going to have a ton of stuff coming your way and soon, so please excuse me for a few while we all work our asses off to make it so.

Weekend iPad Wallpapers: Blue Constellation

Posted: 21 Apr 2013 10:11 AM PDT

Blue Constellation iPad wallpaper

This weekend's iPad wallpaper pick is Blue Constellation, shown above on the iPad mini home screen.

It follows on from last week's pick – which was Constellations. This one is a much more subdued sort of image, one that almost feels like a simple, single color background for the home screen – but with just a little extra interest to it.

It's by Brett Jordan (no relation) just like last week's pick. Brett is one of the biggest regular contributors to our iPad Insight Flickr group. You can download this Blue Constellation image at a range of good iPad wallpaper sizes from the group page – and while you're there check out all the other cool wallpaper images and incredible iPad artwork.

Yahoo Mail for iPad

The Yahoo! Mail app was updated and revamped this week; it's now a universal app with a new iPad version.

Here's a few of the notable feature of the new Yahoo! Mail iPad app:

Especially designed for your iPad, this app lets you sit back, relax, and effortlessly sift through emails:
✔ Full screen "Reading mode": Email with photos, newsletters, and shared articles now appear beautifully in full screen at the tap of a button. Flip through messages as in a magazine.
✔ Advanced options for message actions: Upon selection, messages are automatically grouped by sender, so you can keep your Inbox more organized. Delete unnecessary social media notifications, star messages from a friend, move messages from family into folders, all in a few taps.
New "Starred" folder: Conveniently find all your starred messages in one place. Available on both iPhone and iPad.
